The Source:

Thomas Schürmann:
"Nachzehrerglauben in Mitteleuropa"
Marburg, 1990

Konrad Schlüsselburg:
"Gründliche Erklärung deß XCI. Psalms"
Franckfurt am Mayn, 1607

The Case

"Anno Domini 1579 ist in einem Dorff nit weit von der Wißmar auch ein solch Schmetzen im Grabe von einem Todten geschehen und wolten die Bauer daselbst das Grab eröffnen und dem todten Cörper den Halß mit einem Spaden oder Schaufel abstossen aber der Superintendens zur Wißmar M. Andreas Coruinus wolte solches weil der Pastor seinen Raht begerte nicht zulassen."

Which more or less amounts to:

In the year of 1579, in a village not far from Wissmar, there has also been such a chewing in the grave of a deceased and the farmers wanted to open the grave and cut off the corpse's head with a spade or a hoe, but the Superintendent in Wissmar, Mr. Andreas Coruinus, who was asked for advice by the clergyman, would not allow it.

The Date:

As to the date, we have been handed the year of 1579.

The Place:

Wißmar can be found a little to the North of Gießen, which can be found North of Frankfurt am Main.

Possible Follow-Up:

Go find yourself a copy of Thomas Schürmanns's brilliant "Nachzehrerglauben in Mitteleuropa". And if you are as much of a fanatic as I am, you will also start looking for Konrad Schlüsselburg's "Gründliche Erklärung deß XCI. Psalms".
