The Sources:

Sámuel Köleséri de Kereseer:
"Pestis Dacicae anni MDCCIX scrutinum et cura"
Cibinii, Heltzdörfer, 1709

as quoted in:
Laszlo Andras Magyar:
"Die Siebenbürgische Vampir-Krankheit"

The Case:

It is not an awful lot that Sámuel Köleséri de Kereseer tells us:

"In Weißkirchen wurde sogar auf Wunsch seiner eigenen Familie ein Rinderhirt ausgegraben und gepfählt."

Or - as some of you may prefer:

In Weißkirchen a man who used to herd the cattle was dug up and staked at the request of his own family.

The Date:

Sámuel Köleséri's book deals with the plague of 1709.

The Place:

As yet I have not found a place called Weisskirchen that seems to be in the right area. There is a beautiful village called Weisskirch but I am not certain that it is the place we are looking for.

Possible Follow-Up:

I guess you could check out the book by Sámuel Köleséri de Kereseer although you may not read Hungarian. In that case it may be best to find and download Laszlo Andras Magyar's fascinating article instead. And don´t forget that we are still looking for the right location.
