The Case:

In 1906, in a small village close to Vlasenica, a young men died of some epidemic that was going around the area at the time. Shortly after his wife got ill as well. She insisted that her dead husband had visited her during the night to drink her blood. "He has become a Lampir !", she told them. The terrified neighbours asked permission to dig up the dead man so he could be decapitated and cremated. Their request was turned down by the authorities. A general panic followed with many people claiming to have seen the Lampir and no less than 15 people died.

Possible Follow-Up:

Go find my source which should not be too hard. But to speed things up for you I may as well tell you that this story seems to have been taken from one of the fascinating books about the Balkans written by Edith Durham.
