The Source:

Jan L. Perkowski (ed.) :
"Vampires of the Slavs" [1976]
Slavica Publishers Inc., Cambridge - Mass., USA, 1976

The Case:

The story is about Ibro Buljugbasic who expected that the undead Afis Adem Ranosevac was going to pay him a nocturnal visit. Ibro attacked the vampire with a Turkish dagger that had been engraved with a prayer. The vampire tried to escape but Ibro chased it and killed it with his dagger.

The Date:

Oh dear... We have not been given a date. But it is also said in the story (something I did not mention) that there were Turkish sentries guarding the house. This tells us that the happenings must have taken place when this part of Serbia was still Turkish territory. That - at least - gives us a minimal indication of how far we must go back in time.

The Place:

Sjenica is a small place in Serbia, situated West of Novi Pazar.

Possible Follow-Up:

Go and read Perkowski's version of the story to find out what his sources are. Maybe it will help you get further, maybe it doesn't. I am sure that I have read a similar story somewhere else. See if you can find other stories about vampires getting killed by consecrated daggers.
