The Source:

Lukasz Maurycy Stanaszek:
"Praktyki antywampiryczne w XI wieku stosowane na terenie cmentarzyska szkieletowego na Wzgorzu Swietojakubskim w Sandomierzu"
in: Byuletyn Antropologiczny, vol.II, 1998

The Case:

When archaeological research was taking place in the Wzgorzu Swietojakubski skeleton cemetery, close to the Dom Ksiezy Emeritow, on the South-side of Sandomierz, there were a number of graves found where it seemed apparent that the people who were buried there had been subjected to anti-vampire measures.

The graves numbered 9, 10, 26, 44, 124 and 132 all are reported to show signs of various anti-vampire measures. As the report is in Polish, I do not feel qualified to give you any further information. I have made a very rough translation of some passages. It will do for my own personal purposes and that is what I will keep it for.

If you want to know more about it, I suggest you download the article and find some way of doing your own translation.

The Date:

We have been informed that the graves date back to the 11th Century.

The Place:

Sandomierz can be found in the South-East of Poland, somewhere halfway between Krakow and Lublin.

Possible Follow-Up:

Go find and download Mr. Stanaszek's "Praktyki antywampiryczne w XI wieku stosowane na terenie cmentarzyska szkieletowego na Wzgorzu Swietojakubskim w Sandomierzu". There is a map, there are sketches and a photo. And it has a nice list of bibliographical references.
