The Sources:

Henry Fanshawe Tozer:
"Researches in the Highlands of Turkey"
John Murray, London, 1869

The Case:

"In Samos, some time ago the Turks were haunted by the spectre of a greek who had been lately buried, so that ultimately they persuaded the authorities to have the body dug up and burnt; after which the Christians complained that they were not only persecuted while alive, but were not allowed to rest when dead."

The Date:

The only indication of the date we have is that it happened "some time ago". Therefore let's file it as "before 1869" when Tozer's book was published.

The Place:

Samos is a Greek island East of Athens, close to the Turkish coast.

Possible Follow-Up:

First check out Tozer's report and see what else he has to say. And then you can see if the case is mentioned elsewhere.
