The Source:

T,P, Vukanovic: "The Vampire"
in: Jan L. Perkowski (ed.) : "Vampires of the Slavs" [1976]
Slavica Publishers Inc., Cambridge - Mass., USA, 1976

The Case:

In Raska, a man called Vidosav Sarkovic had died and become a vampire. One night, a man from a neighbouring village, Randjel Perovic, saw the vampire moving around in the cemetery, wearing a white shroud. When Perovic saw him, "he became stiff with fright and died".

The Date:

No date has been given.

The Place:

Raska can be found in Serbia, North of Novi Pazar, close to the Kossovo border.

Personal Comments:

Despite the fact that we have been handed a couple of names, this does not sound like a serious story based on facts. Apart from the vampire and his victim no mention is made of any further witnesses. So the report on the happenings can only be based on guess-work and assumptions. Why does the story stop there ? What happened to the vampire ?

Possible Follow-Up:

It seems that all we can do is carefully reread Vukanovic's text and check if he gives us any sources for this unlikely tale.
