The Case

It isn't very much that Schneeweis has to report, but the early date and the location make it interesting just the same. I will quote Schneeweis:

"Daß auch die Behörden vom diesen Vampirglauben erfüllt waren, geht daraus vor, daß im Jahre 1403 auf der Insel Pasman amtlich erlaubt wurde, das Grab einer Frau Priba zu öffnen und ihr einen cuneus ins Herz zu stoßen."

which more or less translates into:

"That also the authorities adhered to this belief in vampires is shown by the fact that in the year of 1403 on the Island of Pasman official permission was given to open the grave of a certain Mrs. Priba and stab a cuneus into her heart."

A "cuneus", in case you are wondering, can be any kind of wedge-shaped or pointed object...

The Date:

At least we have been given a rather exact date: 1403.

The Place:

Pasman Island can be easily found. It is a large island just off the coast of the Croatian mainland, a little South of the beautiful historical harbour town of Zadar.

Possible Follow-Up:

Schneeweis must have found his information somewhere. Let's try to find his source or sources. We have been given a date and a location, which should be enough to get us started...
