The Sources:

L. Baroti:
"Beitrage zur Geschichte des Vampyrismus in Südungarn"
in: "Ethnologische Mitteilungen aus Ungarn", Budapest, 1894

The Case:

(Rot.Lugos-Facseter Verwaltersamt, I. 1726, 2)

In my own words:

The "Oberverwalter" of the Racz District reports that, after a lot of inhabitants of Lugos have died, he has had the body of an old woman taken from her grave, as she is suspected to be a "Blutsaugerin". After certain indications had confirmed this fact, he had ordered her head to be removed with a spade. And now he wanted to know if she should be cremated.

The Date:

The report dates back to the year of 1726.

The Place:

Lugoj (Romanian), Lugos (Hungarian) or Lugosch (German) can be found East of Timisoara.

Possible Follow-Up:

And then I found an old magazine. In it was an article that almost exclusively contained references to other people's work. I checked out some of those references and then found Prof. Dr. Baroti's 2 page article in another old magazine. Amazingly the good man managed to squeeze no less than 13 authentic cases of vampirism on to those pages. So go find it, go check it out !
