The Sources:

L. Baroti:
"Beitrage zur Geschichte des Vampyrismus in Südungarn"
in: "Ethnologische Mitteilungen aus Ungarn", Budapest, 1894

The Case:

(Rot. Csakovaer Verwalteramt, II. 530)

This more or less amounts to:

The "Verwalteramt" of Csakova is ordered, from a superior office, to arrest those citizens from the village of Schebell who - without permission and on their own initiative - have dug up three dead people (two men and a woman) whom they suspected of being vampires, after which they had cremated the corpses. The culprits should be locked up for 14 days.

The Date:

The report dates back to the year of 1753.

The Place:

Schebell (German name) appears to have been renamed to Jebel and can be found South of Timisoara, a little less than halfway to the Serbian border.

Possible Follow-Up:

Following a lead in some weird old magazine, that almost exclusively contained references to other people's work, I found Prof. Dr. Baroti's 2 page article in another old magazine. Amazingly the good man managed to squeeze no less than 13 cases of vampirism on to those pages. So go check it out !
