The Sources:

John Cuthbert Lawson:
"Modern Greek Folklore and ancient Greek religion - a study in survivals"
Cambridge University Press, 1910

The Case:

Lawson does not give us too many facts:

"In 1902 there was a similar case of burning at Gourzoumisa near Patras."

The Date:

At least - for what it's worth - we have been given a clear date: 1902.

The Place:

Gourzoumisa can be found West of Athens, a little to the South-East of Patras.

Possible Follow-Up:

Lawson is not quoting any books this time. It must be information that he heard about or read about at the time. Maybe the story has been published elsewhere, in the local newspapers or such.
