The Source:

Rennell Rodd:
"Customs and Lore of modern Greece"
David Stodd, London, 1892

The Cases:

The case mentioned by Summers apparently appeared in "the Athenian Press" in 1890. Summers informs us that the body of a vampire had been burned somewhere on the island of Andros.

The same case is mentioned by Rennell Rodd, and it seems likely that this is where Summers found it. I will quote Mr. Rodd:

"The burning of a body which had once been anointed with holy oil would, of course, only be attempted as a last resource; but not long ago a rumour was circulated in the Athenian press that such a proceeding had taken place quite recently in a deme of the island of Andros."

The Date:

It's not an awful lot that our informants have to tell us, but at least we have been told that the case must have happened in or shortly before 1890.

The Place:

Andros is a Greek island that can be found somewhere East of Athens.

Possible Follow-Up:

You can start by checking Montague Summers version against mine. Or the version by Rennell Rod. And what about "the Athenian Press" ? Are they referring to the press in general or is it the name of a particular publication ?
