WWW.SHROUDEATER.COM - Books in Latin
On this page you will find the bibliographical details of a number of Latin language books on Vampires, Vampirism and related subjects. In case you happen to know about other interesting titles, and have details on where I can find or order them, please be sure to let me know. Your help will be much appreciated.
Christian Friedrich Garmann [1640-1708] :
"De Miraculis Mortuorum"
Universitätsdrücke, Gottingen, Germany, 2003 - pp.288
ISBN: 3 930457 31 8
Facsimile edition of the original 1670 Latin edition together with a German translation, and commentaries by Silvio Benetello and Bernd Herrmann. A very useful reprint. Can we have more books like this please ?
Francesco Maria Guazzo :
"Compendium Maleficarum, ex quo nefandissima in genus humanum opera venesica, ac ad illa vitanda remedia conspiciuntur "
Ambrosiani typographia, Milano, Italy, 1626 - pp.392
Rita Hau :
"Schülerwörterbuch Latein"
Ernst Klett Verlag, Stuttgart, Germany, 2001 - pp.928
And again, where would we be without a dictionary ? To be honest, I have no ambitions whatsoever. So I would rather be considered to be a "Schüler" than a "Scholar". Therefore this book appears to cater for most of my Latin needs.
Editions Niclaus, Paris, France, 1950 - pp.614
This manual on exorcisms, blessings, etc. (or should we consider it to be a grimoire ?), has in fact been written in French. The rituals, however, make up the largest part of the book. And they are all in Latin, which is why you have found the book listed here in our Latin section.
Aeneas Silvius Piccolomini [1405-1464] :
"Historia Bohemica"
Böhlau Verlag, Köln, Germany, 2005 - pp.666
ISBN: 3 412 15504 7
Very nice edition with plenty of comments and such. It has the original latin text next to a German translation.
